![]() If you’d like to check out TypeStatus for Mac beta, it’s available on Hashbang Productions’ site. I get notifications for every mention of TypeStatus here, and most are just people asking about known issues (and, ahem, avoiding directly talking to me for whatever reason). If possible, use iTunes or Apple Configurator. Non-jailbroken users without iTunes or Apple Configurator must perform a longer process detailed here (skip the section called Preparing the device) to get their ECID. TypeStatus has a lot of potential once the bugs get worked out, but we’d love to see a single install package to make the process even easier. Jailbroken users can also SSH into their device (or just open a Terminal on the device itself), and type ecid to reveal it. A second beta has been released to resolve these problems and add an automatic updater for future builds. Update: According to the Hashbang team, a few of the issues mentioned above were caused by the fact that they had accidentally released a build from April 2013 as the first beta. Another important note is that TypeStatus will only function when the Messages app is open, but it will work when the app is in the background. In our testing, TypeStatus for Mac functioned properly, but the notifications would only show a person’s email address or phone number instead of a contact name. From there, drag the TypeStatus plugin into EasySIMBL, check the “Use SIMBL” box, then quit EasySIMBL and restart the Messages app. After downloading the TypeStatus plugin, you’ll need to download and install another app called EasySIMBL. The install process is easy, but keep in mind, it’s not an all-in-one solution. If you notice any bugs or have any feedback, you can write a comment below or email Enjoy! Keep in mind that this is a very early beta a lot needs to be done to bring TypeStatus for Mac’s features on par with the ones in its iOS version. This should work on OS X 10.8 and 10.9, however we’ve only tested it on 10.9. I’d really appreciate if the devs involved would update the tweak for iOS 13. TypeStatus also has built-in support for the awesome Obsidian Menu Bar tweak. TypeStatus was one of the best productivity tweaks for iOS 9-10, and a favorite of mine. I know some of you are probably thinking that this isn’t absolutely necessary for a decent iMessage experience, and you’d be right. ![]() That’s because the ellipsis indicator now resides in the iPhone’s status bar as well. TypeStatus for Mac is a simple addition to your OS X menu bar that displays typing and read receipt notifications, much like the iOS version. With TypeStatus installed, you can see this now typing indicator anywhere, without needing to be in the Messages app. TypeStatus for Mac will provide simple system-wide notifications in the OS X menu bar when your iMessage has been read or someone is typing a response. ![]() Following the success of Hashbang Productions’ iOS jailbreak tweak TypeStatus, the development group has released a beta version of the tweak for OS X.
